WHAT IS BIOTHANE?
What is BioThane®?
BioThane® is a trademarked artificial material that has the look and feel of leather, but without the problems that comes with leather. It’s basically a polyester webbing with a TPU or PVC coating that makes it more durable, waterproof, and easy to clean.
BioThane® is strong, durable, and pliable. It comes in various widths, thicknesses, and colors. One aspect I truly appreciate is just how low maintenance BioThane® is compared to leather.
BioThane® details and specs
Our BioThane® Beta leashes and collars have a 1000lb break strength per 1" width. BioThane® gets brittle at extremely low temperatures. BioThane® breaks down at a whopping -56°F (-49°C)! BioThane® width ranges from 3/8" all the way up to 4" wide.
BioThane® Rope comes in 1/4" and 5/16" width. Currently we are carrying 5/16" rope that has a break strength of 800 lbs.

Cleaning Your BioThane® is a Breeze
Nobody wants to deal with a dirty dog collar or leash. Unfortunately, dogs aren’t as focused on keeping their collars or leashes clean. Whether it’s from the rain or something your dog decided to roll in, leather collars can become dirty and dried out over time and begin to stink.
A stinky leather collar or leash means that you’ll need to scrub the stink off with various concoctions of baking soda, peppermint soap, or whatever you have that can get rid of smells. BioThane® coated webbing is waterproof, stink-proof, and headache proof for dog owners. So how do you clean a BioThane® dog leash/collar? When it gets wet, it dries with no ill effects. If it gets muddy or soiled, simply wash it with soap and water and wipe it dry. Oh, did I mention that BioThane® is stink-proof.
BioThane® Dog Collars and leashes Can Take a Beating
When you think about it, leather is essentially a dried piece of cow. A leather collar or leash might end up as your dog’s favorite chew toy, which could lead you to purchasing replacements collars or leashes after a few too many chomps.
It’s a dog eat dog collar and leash world out there, but BioThane® dog collars and leashes stay strong in the face of, well, a dog’s face. Even the strongest leather can be worn down after a few too many chews. BioThane® coated webbing, on the other paw, makes for a practically indestructible dog collar and leash.
